Our Story: Building Solidarity in San Diego

For over two decades, United Labor Center San Diego has stood as a pillar of strength and advocacy for the working people of our city. Our journey is one of community, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice.

Our Founding

Founded in the early 2000s by a coalition of local union leaders and community organizers, our center was born from a simple, powerful idea: San Diego workers deserve a unified voice. We started in a modest downtown office, driven by the mission to protect workers' rights across industries from hospitality to construction.

Key Milestones

  • 2008: Successfully advocated for landmark workplace safety ordinances affecting thousands of local workers.
  • 2015: Expanded our physical center to include community meeting spaces and a resource library, tripling our capacity to serve.
  • 2020-Present: Launched critical support programs during economic challenges, providing direct aid and legal advocacy to over 5,000 San Diego families.

Community Impact

Our true measure of success is found in the stories of the people we serve. From helping hospitality workers secure fair wages on the waterfront to supporting military families with employment transitions, our impact is woven into the fabric of San Diego. We are not just an organization; we are a community of neighbors fighting for each other's dignity and fair treatment.

Today, we continue to grow, adapt, and fight—always rooted in the solidarity that built us. Our story is still being written, chapter by chapter, with every worker we empower.
